YOU ARE INVITED TO APPLY FOR THE Friends In Art SCHOLARSHIP. A $1500 scholarship is offered annually to students who live in North America for achievement, talent, and excellence in the arts.

The Friends in Art scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school student who plans to major in the field of music, art, drama or creative writing. Students who are intending to enroll on the college level, or are currently pursuing studies in one of these may also apply.

This scholarship is awarded to a student who meets the current medically accepted definition of legal blindness as specified by the Social Security Administration. Applications will not be eligible without a signed document from a medical professional or vocational rehabilitation counsellor, attesting to applicant’s legal blindness status, which must accompany the application.

Instructions for electronically uploading the document are explained later on in the application process. Please note, if you cannot send the proof of legal blindness electronically, please email scholarship@friendsinart.org for assistance.

Note: Legal blindness is defined as a visual acuity of 20/200 or less in the best corrected eye and/or 20 degrees or less of visual field in the best eye, corrected.

Instructions

  • Music and drama: Along with this application, please provide an MP3 of your performance of two works of contrasting nature. (In music it could be a fast and a slow piece. In drama one presentation should be dramatic and the other comic.)
    Dropbox: Upload the file to your Dropbox account and provide a shared link to access the file by entering the link on the FIA Scholarship form. OR,
    YouTube Video Link: Upload the video to your YouTube account, and provide a shared link to access the file by entering the link on the FIA Scholarship form.
  • For visual artists, please provide electronic images of up to ten of your works. You may want to copy the images into a zip file for this purpose.
    Dropbox: Upload the file to your Dropbox account and provide a shared link to access the file by entering the link on the FIA Scholarship form.
  • If applying in the field of creative writing, please provide a minimum of two and a maximum of five poems, or 1500 words of prose in Microsoft Word format.

*** Applications and all required materials must be submitted by      12:00 PM, EST, June 1, 2021. Incomplete Applications or applications received later than June 1, 2021 12:00 p.m.  EDT will not be considered.

The application process consists of three basic steps.

  1. Complete and submit this application form;
  2. You will be emailed a link to set a password for your account;
  3. and

  4. Once you've done so and logged into your account, you'll be provided with access to a file upload page where you can upload your certification of blindness.

Following completion the below form, you'll receive a link to create a password. Once you've logged in, a menu item called "Scholarship uploads page" will appear in the site menu, where you can upload your certification of legal blindness.
